I learned this dance from Penny Brichta at the 2001 Door
County Folk Festival. It is an example of the current Latin-American trend in
Israeli dancing. |
SPECIFIC STEPS: |
Cha-cha: Step slow-slow-quick-quick-slow with a "Latin sway of hips
and shoulders." This can be
achieved by taking small steps from the hip, placing one foot in front of the
other. The only exception is the
second "quick": that is a
small step on the ball of the foot, again with a hip sway. |
Tcherkessiya (to right): Step L across, R in place, L backward, R
in place |
Couples are in circle facing CCW, men (M) on inside, women
(W) outside, holding near hands Steps are described for M; W use opposite
footwork and hands. |
